About Gyros West Family Restaurant

Welcome to our new, exciting
web site for Gyros West, our
Award Winning Family Restaurant!

Our story begins long before 1982 when our restaurant opened. Our parents came from tiny villages in Greece. Like many from their generation, they dreamed of making a better life in America.

Our father, Peter Haidemenos, 20, arrived in the United States in 1951. Peter traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for work where he became an American Motors Assemblyman. There he met his wife Kristina who is now the gem of our family. Kristina found employment with Briggs and Stratton.

With two young boys to support, Peter sought additional work in restaurants. There he discovered great pleasure in serving and meeting with his many customers. A man of many talents, he also founded an orchestra who played Greek music for weddings and baptisms.

After 30 years of hard work when many people plan for retirement, our father, and his determined sons, Steve and Leo, opened our first restaurant. In 1982, Gyros Corner became Milwaukee’s First Fast Food Greek Restaurant on the corner of 59th Street and Appleton Ave. Gyros Corner’s success journeyed West to 1538 E. Moreland in Waukesha to renamed Gyros West in 1989.

We started out simple with Jumbo Burgers, Deli Sandwiches and, of course, our Award Winning Gyros. While our restaurant and menu has grown, our commitment to Quality and Service at Great Value coupled with a Warm Family Environment has remained the same.

Today, our family has traveled almost another 30 years. We specialize in Home Cooked Catering. No Job Too Large or Too Small, Gyros West can Handle It All! Feel up to a Delicious Challenge? Gyros West serves the World’s Largest Super Gyros. Eat it All in One Hour and it is FREE!

Thank you from the Gyros Family for your many years of support. We look forward to continuing our journey into our third generation with your families and ours!

Thank You,
The Gyros West Family
